2026 BSS in Egypt Course Itinerary
Monday 27 April to Monday 4 May
READING HIEROGLYPHS: THE DUTIES OF THE VIZIER
Course Director: Dr Bill Manley (Egiptología Complutense)
Day 1: Monday 27 April
- Arrival in Luxor (participants are responsible for their travel to Luxor, but see the information below*)
- Private transfer from Luxor International Airport
- Check into Marsam Hotel for 7 nights

Day 2: Tuesday 28 April
- Site visit: A short walk to tombs at Qurnat Murai, including tomb of Amenhotep, Viceroy of Nubia under king Tutankhamun
- Site visit: The village of the royal workers at Deir al-Medina, including visits to three tombs in the cemetery and the local temples
- Lunch together at a local restaurant
- Afternoon: Reading Hieroglyphs
- Welcome Dinner at the Marsam Hotel
Day 3: Wednesday 29 April
- Site visit: A full morning in the Valley of the Kings, including both a special ticket for the tomb of Sety I and a private opening of the tomb of Thutmose III.
- Lunch together at local restaurant
- Afternoon: Reading Hieroglyphs
Day 4: Thursday 30 April
- Site visit: A full morning in the great Temple of Amun-Ra at Karnak, including the Open Air Museum and the Temple of Khonsu
- Lunch together at Sofra Restaurant
- Afternoon: Reading Hieroglyphs
Day 5: Friday 1 May
- Site visit: An early start at the iconic temple of Hatshepsut and Thutmose III at Deir al-Bahari
- Site visit: The picturesque tombs of New Kingdom officials, nearby at Dra Abu al-Naga
- Site visit: The grand festival temple of Sety I at Gurna
- Lunch together at local restaurant
- Afternoon: Reading Hieroglyphs
Day 6: Saturday 2 May
- Site visit: A full morning at the vast temple complex of Medinat Habu
- Visit: Howard Carter's House
- Lunch together at local restaurant
- Afternoon: Reading Hieroglyphs
Day 7: Sunday 3 May
- Optional excusion: Early morning hot air balloon trip over the West Bank at sunrise
- Site visit: Selection of the world famous decorated tombs of the officials at Sheikh Abd al-Qurna
- Site visit: The tomb of Rekhmira to read the text you have prepared
- Lunch together at local restaurant
- Late afternoon excursion: Luxor Museum of Ancient Art
- Farewell Dinner at Marsam Hotel
Day 8: Monday 4 May
- Private transfer to airport for return flights*
